Keep us on the air in Iowa

| | | | |

This year's midterm elections present American voters with a clear choice on the type of leadership we want for our country. Do we want to continue with the Republicans' current "stay the course" status quo? Or do we want new leadership on the critical issues that we face -- in particular the situation in Iraq -- the type of new leadership that only Democrats can provide?

Support Dr. Spencer's campaign for Congress -- contribute today to help run my radio ad!

For those who choose new leadership, they need look no further than Dr. Selden Spencer, who is the Democratic nominee for Congress in Iowa's 4th district.

I just recorded a radio ad in support of Dr. Spencer's campaign, and we are looking to raise $10,000 in order to play the ad across the 4th Congressional District. Please contribute what you can to air this important message.

Help us put my ad in support of Selden's campaign on the air -- contribute today!

I served in the military for 38 years. From my experience, it is clear that our policies are not leading us to victory in Iraq, Afghanistan, or the rest of the Middle East. It will take more than military might alone to secure America

Dr. Selden Spencer of Huxley has been on the ground in Afghanistan. He sees that we need a new direction in the Middle East that includes diplomacy and economic development, in addition to the strong military component of the mission.

Dr. Spencer served in Kabul as a physician with Northwest Medical Teams, and while there it became crystal clear to him that a critical component of our battle in the Middle East needs to be winning the hearts and minds of the people there. This is a lesson the Republicans in Washington refuse to learn, and is one of the primary reasons we need Dr. Selden Spencer in Congress.

Help Dr. Spencer bring the experience he gained on the ground in Afghanistan to Washington -- contribute towards our radio ads today!

Dr. Spencer's opponent, Republican Tom Latham, told the Mason City Globe Gazette that he supports George Bush's Iraq policy because he has no choice.

But this is clearly mistaken: there are choices in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the rest of the Middle East, and it says a lot about Latham's leadership abilities that he thinks his only option is to blindly follow President Bush. Come November 7, you can exercise your own choice by voting for a candidate who supports change in our foreign policy, not just "stay the course."

To bring change to our nation's capitol, we need to make clear to undecided voters throughout the 4th District that Dr. Selden Spencer will provide new leadership on foreign policy in Washington.

Contribute today to help us run my radio ad in support of Dr. Spencer's campaign!

In these closing weeks of the campaign, Dr. Selden Spencer needs your support. With your help, Dr. Spencer will help us build a stronger and safer America.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

If you're like me, and suspect most of you are, there isn't a whole lot left in the pocket book with so many important races demanding our help.

But what a wonderful thing to have the same dollar help elect a good Democrat to Congress, while raising our General's profile in a state like Iowa! How could any of us resist?

Thanks Z!

This is great! I can picture Iowa farmers riding their tractors till sunset and often times much later hearing this ad on their radio. Saying to themselves, "General Clark, I wonder if he's going to run again? What a missed opportunity. That's the guy I would have voted for."

That photograph is strikingly familiar. Wonder where they got it?

My friends think I'm 'obsessed' with Clark. What in the world would make them come to such silly conclusions? I can't be the only one making Clark candles. Right? I bet everyone of you have your own.

When we decorate the Cedar Rapids office I'll have a shelf full of them next to bumper stickers, yard signs, t-shirts, etc. as a gift to any volunteers or donors.

I found some candle fragrance online called Democrat. I haven't tried it yet. Hope it smells as good as it sounds! LOL

An NG Original Fragrance! Based on similar personality traits found in many Democrats, our perfumist developed a complex fragrance blend that focused on individuals with a free-spirit, love for mankind, who have a desire to promote conservation of our environment. This unique fragrance has a very fresh greenery base of clover, ivy and aloe, combined with exciting notes of grapefuit, orange, tangerine, and persimmon.

Thanks to all of you for contributing. We have raised over $2300 for the radio spot through WesPAC. But I think we can raise more.

A peace group here, STAR-PAC, loves the radio spot, and they are raising money seperately to put the ad up. The radio ad has really perked up their interest in General Clark. They think the radio ad is very powerful.

Also, activists in Allamakee, Marshall and Howard Counties are raising money to put the ad up on their local stations.

If you can spread the word around, maybe we could get even more money to run the ad. I think it would give good name visibility for General Clark in a crucial state for his ambitions, and it would help a great and unique congressional candidate in Iowa's 4th District.

General Clark sent this e-mail to his supporters in Iowa. Don't you think it would be successful to send it out to all of his supporters? I think the radio ad and the Spencer for Congress campaign are good examples of how to reach out to voters.

I received confirmation yesterday that next year my medicare part B premiums will increase by $10 monthly...this will be a real hardship for some seniors, esp. if they have fallen into the donut hole (luckily I haven't personally had that experience...yet) So I see this meager contribution of mine as insurance of another stripe...(yes, I am indeed assuming Dr. Spencer's position on BIG PHARMA here)

anyway, who can resist Wes's request? it is a very very fine ad

What would you do for a Klondike Bar?

Submitted by Tom on October 27, 2006 - 1:24pm.

The Medicare prescription drug plan has been a significant part of the race in Iowa's 4th District. Spencer wants to fix the donut hole and have negotiations of bulk prices with the pharmaceuticals.

His opponent, Tom Latham, said in a radio debate last night that 89% of the seniors are happy with the program. Ha!!

Submitted by Sybil Liberty on October 27, 2006 - 1:51pm.

HAH! is right.

89% of "happy seniors" are those who have not yet seen the hole that befalls them (can't see the hole for the donut)
...naturally I've taken it upon myself to point out the pitfall to my old-pals ;)

LOOKOUT PAL! don't tread there!
(some of them actually 'cooing' about BIG PHARMA have now fallen in...) and i don't for a minute believe that "%89 satisfied seniors" figure is any longer applicable at this point in time

I'm so glad to hear that Spencer falls in with Rep Miller on mandatory drug-negotiation bidness, that was his bill.

What would you do for a Klondike Bar?

already has a bill to do this. The more the merrier to fix the donut hole and have medicare be able to negotiate for drug prices. Dr. Spencer can just sign right on as a co-sponsor to the bill.

Man-o-man! The biggest paper in Iowa, the Des Moines Register, endorses Dr. Spencer in tomorrow's paper. They are generally a Republican paper, but this year they are endorsing Democrats in 4 of the 5 congressional districts.

We have a big wave coming!

One concern I have is that we will have so many new congressionals elected this year ( a great problem to have, of course!) that they will really have to hit the ground running on November 8.

but my concern is that we don't have three years. I just hope the new members of congress are ready to hit the ground running and don't get taken in by any right-wing tricks while they try to get the country going back on track.

now that it seems like GOP will be losing some power... the right wing coroporate media is saying: but after two years they will be tossed out like the overgrowth of GOP congresspersons elected 1994 tossed in 1996 .....

hit the ground running: the fighting dems military trained by marching the grounds scaling the walls; they know how to hold a formation; make a strategy and work a plan; I think they will be just fine.....

somebody on right is leaking to radio -  just heard the virtual news blip - that a new sec. of defense would be a good plan.....

I saw a Spencer TV ad on the DSM NBC affiliate this morning. In a very calm way he laid out reasons we need a change in Washington. I wish he could run it more often. In a time of nothing but vicious attack ads, it was a calming and pleasant change.

Submitted by Tom on October 29, 2006 - 4:29pm.

The ad will be running on the Des Moines stations through election day, so hopefully you will see it much more. It is the only TV ad we are running. It is a very different TV ad, and I hope the audience finds it compelling.

You can view the TV ad from our homepage: www.SpencerforCongress.com

The General Clark radio ad is also different and compelling. We have begun running it in the northern part of the district, but we are scrounging for money to get it aired more often.

The radio ad is also on our homepage.

The support for Dr. Spencer from the Clark Community Network has really been great. We have raise over $3000 from the two WesPAC-sponsored ActBlue accounts.

I was hoping for a little more directly from WesPAC, but I understand that there are a 100 races that are further up the ladder.

I look forward to working with you after the November 7 elections. General Clark is a terrific man, and I hope to help raise his profile in Iowa.

Submitted by Tom Rinaldo on October 31, 2006 - 12:54am.

It's more just that there are a hundred races, or more. From all I can see Clark has directed WesPAC to run lean and mean so that it isn't WesPAC that is appealing for and soaking up money in 2006, it is the candidates directly that WesPAC tries to shine a spotlight on and direct supporters to help, with both time and money. And we all know that if Wes Clark could find a way to put in a 30 hour day campaigning for Democrats directly right now, he would.

I really hope things are breaking your way in that Iowa district.
