General Wes Clark in Campaign Ad for Ned Lamont
"Mistake"
I'm retired General Wes Clark.
Joe Lieberman introduced the resolution authorizing the War in Iraq. That was a mistake.
Joe Lieberman voted for that resolution without asking the tough questions. That was also a mistake.
And now, 3 and a half years into a failing mission in Iraq, Joe Lieberman can't seem to say we should change the course. And that's a REAL mistake.
Re-elect Joe Lieberman? Well, there's a word for it.
"Mistake."
I'm Ned Lamont and I approve this message.
To contribute to Ned Lamont to keep this ad on the air

Hello America
Wake UP.The General is made of steel in his backbone and has the facts. The truth hurts and he can tell it.JoeMo is bleading with this one. This Politic attack will not make it to the Mass Media. " Spin heads , its a Black out. They all fear Clark.
Armed and Ready to "March for Clark "in 07 and on to win in 08.

all seem to have been on the same wavelength having started blogs about this ad within minutes of each other...That being the case, my blog is certainly unecessary, especially with Wes' entry, so I'm deleting mine and transplanting the info I put in it over here....
Here's the entry on Lamont's blog about the ad. They also have a link to the video there and you can leave a comment as well.
And here's a DU thread about it.
Nice ad...Thanks Wes for stepping up again.
I see it got fixed. Now it is NED and not joementum.
Here ya go...

Just dropped by to say thank you so much General Clark!! So, Thank You So Much!!!
Kevin, I saw your post at dKos. Thank you for posting over there too.

It looks like they are in the process of nominating Wes for '08 right now! :)

comments are fast & furious - and overwhelmingly positive! as were the ones on Kevin's diary-

Has one ever been made before??! - the more I think about this the more incredible it is. This is the sort of thing that proves for the hundred millionth time that Wes, especially when he simply speaks his heart & mind & is not handled or mishandled, is THE GOLD STANDARD of the Democratic party. This is zero bullshit, totally unvarnished, serious, earnest, on the level gut check real.
Thanks General Clark. Grand slam.
what I wrote at kos
it's a clean attack ad
Look- just my opinion, but there is no time left to finesse this, to nuance it or anything else. Our guys lose if the election fails to be nationalized. This race & a handful of others are a proxy for Bush.
I have immense respect for Wes going out against the entire rightwing monied aristocracy like this.
He's not pulling any punches. There is no hype. There's nothing behind the back going on. There's no this was paid for by this 527 or that one, or this committee or that one.
It's just America's winningest general backing one of our most interesting & scrappy Congresssional candidates in decades.
It's kind of silly, in my book, to have Wes do anything but hit a grand slam on national security if he is to do an ad. There are many lesser grade candidates around who can do a feel good "I'm charismatic!" ad. You get your gold standard guy to do a four star ad & that's that. Ned can speak for himself. Wes is speaking for the party.
This ad is HUGE. This ad is very meaningful if you think about Lieberman's stance, and his backers.
"During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act" (Orwell)
Draco Malfoy: Scared, Potter? Harry Potter: You wish.

Bloomberg is sending people to CT to help Lieberman.
The US media may have forgotten but the problems in Serbia and Kosovo continue. Today was the first day of voting in Serbia for a new constitution. While Kosovo is currently administered by the UN technically it remain a province of Serbia pending the outcome of negotiations. However, according to the BBC the proposed new constitution short circuits the negotiations by including an article that says Kosovo remains an "integral" part of Serbia. In addition the almost 2 million Kosovo Albanians will not be able to vote.

for your leadership and once again standing up for what's right in the Connecticut Senate race. When I read recently that other leading Democrats were backing off from helping Ned Lamont I was secretly hoping that you would continue to be there in this tough race. And so I was truly heartened to read this diary and kevin22262's diary on this at DailyKos. I know that Joe Lieberman has let us down several times. Although his irresponsible position on the Iraq War is the one that surely has directly cost this country the most. Thanks for your leadership and courage.

Looks like Wes saved the Big Guns for Lieberman. Great ad, General Clark! Way to pull the trigger.

Kicking Ass and Taking Names
By: Jane HamsherJeebus Wes Clark doesn't like Joe Lieberman.
Nice to see someone with guts who isn't intimidated by No Show Joe's petulant threats against the Democratic party. I'm feeling pretty Clarkie today.
Meanwhile, Joe Biden claims that it's "a matter of personal honor" that he not campaign against Lieberman.
Well, that and the fact that nobody asked.

...my favorite comment at firedoglake......well.....anywhere actually
two beers says:
October 28th, 2006 at 1:16 pm *Clark’s personable (unlike Kerry), doesn’t have baggage (that we know about…)(unlike Hillary), has balls (unlike the entire DLC), isn’t too slick (like Edwards), doesn’t have a record of folding when the heat’s on (like Gore). Feingold was looking good, but his absence in Conn. is disheartening.
Clark will pose a threat to the GOPervs like Dean did, so expect to hear media concern that he’s not a viable candidate.
The more I hear the MSM tell me a “candidate X” is not viable, the better I like the odds.
One for the ages....may have to save for future use.

I was over at FDL reading the comments. You're right, there are lots of good ones. There are a couple of good ones at the YouTube site, too.

I wasn't complaining.
Two glasses of wine make me kinda mouthy. Sorry. ;)

when people say that Clark would be great except for that he has no political experience!!! Grrrrr!!! I need to learn how to dispel that notion.

the person who is better qualified then Wes is a one term (or less) Senator with little or no foreign policy experience. But.....this person has won an election!!! Big Whoop.
Gosh! The comments about Wes are GREAT! This Ad has to be good for Lamont!
Wes is the very best! THANK YOU GENERAL!
What excitement today. LOL!

Oh yeah....I'm exhausted LOL
I've found that keeping up with Kos when the comments are coming fast and furious is HARD WORK.

Good General

Jane's feeling Clarkie today and for good reason. Wes Clark has made a helluva good commercial for Ned Lamont. Jane sez:
Nice to see someone with guts who isn't intimidated by No Show Joe's petulant threats against the Democratic party. As some of you may remember, I was a Clarkie in the last round of primaries and I still like the guy. He's spent the last two years working tirelessly for candidates all over the country and he is, as Jane points out, not intimidated by ossified GOP enablers or the Democratic establishment.
He also respects actual Democratic voters. I think that one of the reasons the netroots backed Dean and Clark in great numbers during the primaries was that simple fact. They both respected the base of the Democratic party -- the people who devote their energy and their money to the party and believe in Democratic principles. That's a rarity in Democratic establishment politics, as Joe Lieberman has demonstrated for us once again.
Clark's campaign fizzled and Dean's went out with a bang, but they were the first glimmer that the base of the Democratic party --- the netroots, in particular --- had had it with Washington's game. It's a lesson that still hasn't completely sunk in. But it's beginning to. And we're not going anywhere.
Good for Clark for being smart enough to see the future and gutsy enough to act on it.

Wesley Clark slams Joe Lieberman in new Ned Lamont ad
By: John Amato on Saturday, October 28th, 2006 at 4:39 PM - PDTSo tell us how you really feel, General Clark. There's no wiggle room in this ad as Clark comes out fighting and calling Holy Joe on his insane stance on the Iraq war. You gotta love Wesley's commitment to the voters of CT that got up—registered—and voted to make their voices heard in the Democratic primary. Meanwhile—Joe needs the lifeline being supplied to him by more Republicans to keep his chances alive.

Hi all
I just saw the commercial over at Daily Kos.
After thinking about what I remember of the 2004 primaries, General Clark's support of Lamont, after reading the 100 year vision, and reviewing some of his policy stands.................
count me a General Clark supporter, and if he announces he will seek the 08 dem nomination I will deffinetly volunter and contribute to his campaign
:-)

Welcome aboard! Yup, we've all been convinced for a long time! Now you can join the troops in spreading the word about him. If you have any questions, concerns, etc. ask on the General Discussion thread and you're sure to get an answer!

distractions. Just...Iraq...Mistake.
Geeze, I just blew the afternoon over at Kos tooting Wes's horn. He inspired me to do something useful and I spent the morning working on a little project combating climate change and then The Ad came along. Although, when you think about it, anything we do to get Texas oil out of DC is combating climate change. So when the announcements start in November and we all fall into the black hole of primary season, that's a good thing, right? We'll get back to things later...

You 'n me both.

good sense of timing; knows just when to go un-reserved :-)

They are both nuts and your life could be in jeopardy at any time when they are around!
You've been warned. :p
I'd call this ad a "hat-trick". I love it!
Thank you General Clark.

In hockey, a game of power, finesse and speed played on ice, scoring goals are a priority item. A team is awarded a goal when a player shoots the puck past the opposition's goalie and into the goal. The goal itself, often referred to simply as the "net," measures four feet tall (1.22 meters) and six feet wide (1.83 meters). If someone scores a "hat trick" in hockey, it means that a player has scored three goals in one game.
good one StvyY19!
That ad should score points and turn on some flashing lights in the minds of many, just like a "hat trick".

I want to point out that Ned Lamont's website has this great feature where you can send a postcard to anyone you know who lives in CT. All you have to do is enter their name, and the program checks the voter registration roll for their address and sends them a postcard from you telling them about Ned Lamont. It's so cool. I went to high school in CT. So, I dragged out my old yearbook and went nuts.
Excellent ad, Sir. I'm always proud to be a supporter of yours.

and moved on. Considering the kind of response this ad has received on more high profile sites, I think we're safe to say that "Mistake" was well received throughout the progressive blogosphere.
What I like about this is that there can now be seen a process of change and conditioning that is associated with the Democratic party which did not exist in it in 2003. General Clark's determination, willfulness and drive was too rich for the mainstream in 2003 because the mainsteam was not ready to face the crisis and its challenges. Now the mainstream has changed and is more ready to accept the crisis and to address the challenges. General Clark is now becoming the representative figure of the Democrats. His authority becomes intuitively trusted. He has risen through a waning force; Lieberman's chicanery and Bush appeasement, and a positive charge - Jim Webb's intellegence and assertive sense of duty. I see this here with Carol Shea-Porter in New Hampshire as well. This is becoming the new condition of the Democrats and will become the new forum; appeasement and denial are falling off like scales and Democrats are rising through the maelstrom.
Among the Democrats, only Wesley Clark seems to be able to manage to get through without shrillness and dark rhetoric. Perhaps because he is a soldier through and through. Perhaps because he is a warrior/scholar, like the Man in the Center of Lao Tsu’s and Sun Tsu’s ancient vision of wisdom guiding action. I think it is that it just comes naturally to him to find decency in himself and a positive outlook no matter what the circumstances; that he can find that life force whole and within himself, which was unique to JFK as well.
Lao Tsu is always the best guide. I was struck at the beginning of the war on Iraq by the people who emerged in politics specifically because of the invasion. There were three: Howard Dean, Arnold Schwarzenneger and Wes Clark. Living 500 feet from Vermont I felt Dr. Dean was a retreat from the crisis (projection - Dr. Dean's position wasn't actually that). And the Arnold phenomenon was a desire to "get big" - primarily psychologically motivated to go forward too fast (projection again - Arnold had voiced no such opinion). General Clark was the balanced figure and I felt eventually the country would go forward with him. They are like Lao Tsu's Three Celestial Ones which appear in time of crisis.

So good to see you featured in these ads, General Wes....saying the things only you can say.....reaching so many more voters who cannot participate in campaign events. Excellent.
The second line of this ad is spot on. I'd venture to guess many CT voters did not know Lieberman introduced the IWR. So important.
I was up late into the night reading comments on the various blogs. There were some very good ones, particularly at kos, discussing the cosmetics of the ad. Might not be a bad idea to review those for future reference. Never hurts to have different points of view. Especially non-biased ones. :)
You know, the other day one of the guys at MyDD posted how Lieberman is able to package up the things he's done and make it look like a "Happy Meal". Ha! I found this funny....and so true. This ad gives encouragement to those CT Dems who are concerned about leaving their comfort zone. Just what they needed. Truth and trust.
I'll predict a change in those CT polls over the next few days.
Well done, General Wes.
Sir: Request to deliver message, from daughter who just viewed this ad on a Sunday morning:
"Thank you General, oh my God, thank you! Cutting thru political bullsh*t, this powerful ad delivers a serious message from the credible voice. Straight in the eyes, General, no bells and whistles. Short! Simple! Serious!...no spin. Let them get used to it. "Mistake" was very well-crafted in my opinion..."

Those people at Kos who complained about the structure of the ad were talking through their a$$es.

Phooey on them that complain. I don't see anyone else coming out for Lamont like Wes!
Phooey, I say!

Wes is looking every viewer square in the eye in that ad. There is no hidden meaning in his message. Any idiot can understand exactly what he's saying.
Joementum has got to be cringing, Big Time.
telling as well. He honestly can't say much about what Wes has said, except that he still believes we should stay the course. LOL! Staying the course with Iraq or Joe? ha! I'm thinking you are right. :D

"Who" looked the other way during the Swift Boat attacks. He thought if he ignored them they would just go away. He found out the hard way that he was wrong.
Ned & Wes have got Lieberman between a rock & a hard place. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. It's not a good spot to be in, unfortunately for Joe.
Now, I hope Lamont has the stomach to go in for the kill.

I read that Lamont GOTV is better than Lieberman's the pollster mean average of polls is Lieberman 8 points up and with the GOP guy taking 9 points.... with Liberman's disapprovals showing his weakness.... from these new polls they are saying at kos and mydd that Lamont has alot of make up but on the other hand he is in a place now where he could still win... my memory of stats and numbers not so good what I do recall that Lamont does his ground work very well .... remember Aug 8th I do.... it was great... I think we can expect to see Lamont put Joemo's feet to fire; go for the jugular; he has the stomach for it - all of the above
I analyzed the Aug 8th when Lamont was 17 points behind and the chart was simple chart could see that Lamont would prevail; but this Nov 7th race has all the sham and scams of a presidential race in the small state of CT.... I have found it harder to forecast... I was emailing an astrology pal yesterday ... we both think Lamont can win... ... the election anomolies as you can expect make it harder to chart....
but having said that I think I found my focus on the chart yesterday using a wider field for synastry comparisons... Lamont actually is just as likely to win by my charting as Lieberman I finally don't feel entrapped by the numbers/polling game... Lamont has already succeeded in changing this election for the better for Dems...

earlier in the thread this ad was called a 'hat trick' an expression from hockey a three point advantage.... you could do a focus group study and polling on the effect of this ad...... it has got legs

...it was one of those inside the beltway DC consultants that was complaining.
bwahahaha.
This is not a time for a candidate who will offend no one; it is time for a candidate who takes clear stands and kicks ass.....Molly Ivins
That's very funny... whimpering fools. The Ad created a wave of support for Wes AND I can only hope it's purpose created a wave of support for Lamont. I wish we'd get some new polls!
CT Senate (Rasmussen Oct. 29)
Lieberman: 48%
Lamont: 40%
Schlesinger: 9%
I don't have a membership at Rasmussen so can't get the details of this poll but I think it's an improvement. I'm hopeful...
Too close for my comfort a week ago, now I'm feeling very let down. All I can hope for is Wes' Ad turning some votes to Lamont.
