Tucked away in the Arkansas Ozarks is a town of few more than 2,000 people. Completely surrounded by Northwest Arkansas' predominantly rural, Republican-tonguing, Toby Keith-loving, race-baiting, homophobic, Confederate flag-waving, closed-minded voters, this fair town affectionately nicknamed "Little Switzerland" may now become known as "Little Amsterdam."
Thanks to some very open-minded voters in this odd-duck town, Eureka Springs, Arkansas has passed local marijuana reform. Granted, this newly-passed measure seemingly won't have any real-world legal impact -- the offfense is a state crime, not a local one -- but during a period when progressive voters are hailing their greatest success as Arizona's libertarian-motivated defeat of a gay marriage ban, this vote should serve as a reminder about what progress really means.

2006 Candidates | Arkansas | Governors Races | Mike Beebe | Call to Action | Fundraising

Morning Everyone! Just wanted to pass this along...please forward it far and wide across the blogosphere!
Mike Beebe's race in Arkansas is one of the most important for us to win...by "us", I mean, the country, Democrats, and especially General Clark & WesPAC. We need to pick up four Governor's seats in November to get a majority - and this is a MAJOR one! It might not seem like a governors races in states that aren't your own are that important - vs. House races. But they are! Governors set the agenda for their states for years to come - and those agendas and polices have huge impact on neighboring states. Don't think so? Just ask Colorado how much of its fresh water gets shipped to other states - states who couldn't survive without it. Arkansas policies have enormous impact for all the Delta Valley, and beyond.
