Two great Texas Democrats need your help!

Help rebuild the Texas delegation: Contribute to Nick Lampson and Chet Edwards today!

Many of you may be familiar with the fact that, two years ago, Tom DeLay forced through an unprecedented redistricting of Texas' Congressional seats. And as he famously noted to reporters, his motives were purely political: "I'm the Majority Leader, and we want more seats."

Sadly, DeLay's political gambit succeeded in ousting several great Democratic Representatives in 2004, members who had been elected not because they represented liberal districts -- many of these districts voted for Republican presidential candidates even before the redistricting -- but because they worked tirelessly for their constituents, and truly represented their best interests in Washington.

Today, I'd like to bring your attention to two fine Democrats who stood directly in the path of DeLay's redistricting scheme: Nick Lampson and Chet Edwards. They aren't backing down. Instead, they're fighting back this year, and they need your help.

Change the Equation

With less than 40 days until the election, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott only wants some people to vote.
The Lone Star Project broke the story nearly a week ago (we were a little side-tracked with other forms of racism here), but the details continue to be striking.

Here is brief re-cap:

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is using $1.5 million in federal grant funds to prosecute Texas citizens who help senior citizens apply for ballot applications and cast their vote by mail.  Most of the Texans being prosecuted by Abbott are senior citizens, African American or Hispanic, and ALL are Democrats.
