The Center for American Progress and The Century Foundation hosted the “America in the World” conference to explore how the United States can restore its leadership for a more peaceful, prosperous, and secure world.

The conference brought together leading thinkers from government, academia, the military, and the non-governmental sector to discuss the peace and security issues that will shape the public agenda over the coming years. Keynote speakers included former Secretary of State Madeline Albright, Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR), and former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski. Panel discussions focused on four topics: energy and the environment, the Middle East, America’s defense posture, and the global economy.

The Courthouse Effect

Global warming can't seem to stay out of the news lately. Whether it's because of Al Gore's new movie, newly released reports from the National Academy of Sciences, or newly uttered flubs by our president, the subject has been everywhere. It's tempting to think that some critical mass is building--that the way we talk and think about this issue may forever change because of all the current attention and increased public awareness. On the other hand, the history of the global warming debate in the United States shows that there have been longstanding cycles of attention followed by inattention followed by attention again. Perhaps we're just in another attentive period at the moment.

The Real War on Christmas: The Eviction of Santa Claus

| | | |

There's been a vicious land grab going on behind the scenes at the North Pole to take over the rights to the region, and Mr. & Mrs. Claus and the elves have nothing to say about it.

What kind of unconscionable rascals could possibly be behind an eminent domain conspiracy to oust Santa from his longtime home at the North Pole?

I think every major blog NEEDS a Live Earth Thread!

So this is my lame attempt.

Here is the main website link:

Want to watch LIVE online? Go Here:

Seems like if you want to see it on TV, most people will only be able to see it on NBC tonight at 8pm.

But... It is on BRAVO right now! They are showing a really good mix of shows and Good Earth info and videos.

Why is it not on MTV or VH1? .. oh... they USED to be music stations and USED to fake social awareness and caring.
