I will not be able to liveblog this morning but I wanted to share some news with you. Good news seems to be coming from every direction for Team Massa. The best news is that yesterday Majority Watch (link) released a new poll that has me beating Randy Kuhl 52-40. According to the poll, my opponent is winning the rural southern tier of NY-29 by a single point and we are winning the northern part of the district by 26 points!!

When I'm on the campaign trail for candidates across the country, I hear it over and over again: Americans want an end to the Bush one-party government. The current rubber-stamp Congress doesn't serve the interests of the American public. It only serves the interests of George W. Bush, Karl Rove, and their right-wing friends.
You can change that right now and help Democrats "Take the Hill."
Today, I'm asking you to help me raise $5,000 each for four great candidates before the September 30th fundraising deadline: Joe Sestak (PA-07), Bruce Braley (IA-01), Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01), and Eric Massa (NY-29). Each of these Democratic House candidates faces a Republican opponent with a huge campaign war chest. And I need you to help them close the gap.
Please help Joe, Bruce, Carol, and Eric "Take the Hill" this November by donating through my ActBlue page today!

In November of last year the Democratic Party regained majority status in both houses of Congress. Opposition to the Iraq War was by far the main issue of the election and the strength of the new Democratic majority status in the House was tested this week with a vote on funding and timetables for the Iraq War. Simply put, ending the Iraq War is what the American people expected from the Democratic congress it sent to Washington.

Today (Sunday) I will be touring in the district with General Wesley Clark and tomorrow (Monday) President Bill Clinton and Senator Max Cleland will be here.
While it may be hard to fathom, we are now 48 hours away from our last best chance to save this Nation that we call the United States of America.
48 hours to save it from the leadership of one political party that would spend our children and grandchildren into economic ruin.
48 hours to save our Nation from power hungry leaders who would do anything to stay in power.
48 hours to save our Nation from officials who would federalize each and every classroom and wipe out two centuries of local control of schools all because they see public education as a failed proposition. Instead of solving the problem they only make it worse.
48 hours to save our fellow Americans from a Government that would give Billions in tax rebates to the large oil companies while those same companies are reaping the largest profits in the history of the United States, and all in the name of short term quarterly stock reports instead of long term national wealth.
48 hours to save our Nation from a government that would sell out the very people that they are charged with protecting by exporting our manufacturing base overseas with no care about the consequences. And, finally, we have
48 hours to save our Nation from a government that would involve us in an endless war of occupation and attrition and then throw a continuous stream of Madison Avenue slogans at us to try and divert attention from their failures.
We are at a crossroads and only our phone calls, door to door Get-Out-the-Vote election district walking, and last minute financing will make the difference. We are at a crossroads and only we can direct which direction we will go. Here in the 29th Congressional District we have the luxury of old fashioned lever machines and we will be watching like a hawk at the polls. And here on the ground we are working around the clock to get out the Army of folks whom we will need to motivate and mobilize the voters. But across this Country we will all have a choice to make: Stay the Course or Change the Course. And only we can select which it will be.
We need new leadership that has the fearless backbone to stand and demand the impeachment of the Secretary of Defense because calling for his resignation has not been enough. The President has announced and his Vice President has affirmed that despite what the American people want they will not change their failed policies in Iraq . We must act with strength, vigor and purpose. We need new leadership that has the fearless backbone to reverse five years of a failed energy policy that panders to a few top oil companies instead of moving forward with bold strokes to realize the dream of true energy independence. The President has failed to fund the very initiatives that he described as his Administration's contribution to that goal. And his Vice President has affirmed two things: One, that the American people have no right to know what secret negotiations created his failed energy policy; And two, that anything other than increased drilling for oil and remaining dependent on fossil fuels is a failure. And he says this despite what the entire scientific community says.

First the good news
The momentum continues to grow here in the New York 29th with an incredible series of positive developments over the past week. First, this week started with the launch of a new television ad from my campaign featuring the next Governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer. Watch it here.
This Thursday, October 26th, the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) added my name to the prestigious "Red to Blue" list of the top races in the country. In the release Chris Van Hollen, Co-Chair of the Red to Blue program, noted that I offer "a real alternative to the rubber stamp agenda of Randy Kuhl." The DCCC's elevation of the race is an indication that national party leaders have finally come to recognize what you and I have known all along--that come this November 7th, the 29th District will indeed go from Red to Blue.

The Iraq war turned him into a candidate. Running for Congress turned his family's finances upside down.

Charlie Rangel | Eric Massa | Nancy Pelosi | Democratic politics | Fighting Dems | Fundraising

I attended the fundraiser for Eric Massa in Manhattan tonight...or at least part of it. The event started at 5:30PM but I work until 6PM and by the time I made it across town, it was just after 6:30PM and the speakers had been going at it for a bit already.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Charlie Rangel there. He hadn't been listed on the invite I had seen...Unfortunately, I missed him speak but I'm sure his speech was both passionate and rousing. I don't think Charlie knows any other way. Representative Jerry Nadler was onstage also but, if he spoke, I missed him too. :(
The soon to be first female Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, was speaking when I arrived. I'd just seen the 60 Minutes piece on her last night and thought she was great. Now she was saying wonderful words about Eric. She mentioned how he worked with Wes, which I was happy to hear. She also spoke of Eric's FDR button and told a story about when FDR died and someone was asked why they came out to see his funeral train. Did he know FDR? And the man said, "No, but FDR knew me." (At least I think that's the way the story went. The event was well attended and I, getting there late, didn't get the best spot so I couldn't hear everything Nancy said.) She said that Eric would be that kind of leader for us...It was a very nice introduction, full of hope for our near future with guys like Eric in office. Oh, and two of her daughters were there...I can't remember one of their names but the other was a VERY pregnant Alexandra.
