Help Christine fight for electoral justice

2006 Candidates | Florida | Democratic politics

While four weeks have passed since the American people overwhelmingly cast a vote for change by putting Democrats in charge of both Houses of Congress, there is still a race that has yet to be conclusively decided that deserves our attention.
Democrat Christine Jennings, who rose from a bank teller at age 17 to become the founding President and CEO of Sarasota Bank, is locked in a tough recount battle to determine the next representative of Florida's 13th Congressional district.
Ironically, this is Katherine Harris' old seat.
Recently, the state of Florida certified a 369 vote victory for Christine's opponent despite the fact that there were serious problems with the voting machines used in the election. These problems have raised major questions about the integrity of the election, and Christine is fighting to make sure every intended vote is counted.
In Christine's home of Sarasota County, election officials have maintained that an astounding 18,000 voters simply did not vote in her Congressional race -- a 14% "undervote" that is six times higher than the undervote rate in the rest of the district. This statistical aberration, combined with numerous reports of voters who said they voted for Jennings but didn't see this choice registered on their voting summary, makes it clear that a new election or re-vote is the only solution.
Christine has filed suit to contest the election results, and she will continue to fight back. But she needs help -- click here to contribute to her campaign's recount fund today!
After what we saw in Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004, I've worked to make election integrity a top priority. Given the statistical discrepancies between undervotes in Sarasota County and the rest of the 13th District, coupled with reports of voting machine error, this race may represent a worst case scenario for those of us who feared something like this was bound to happen eventually.

General Wes Clark in Campaign Ad for Ned Lamont
"Mistake"
I'm retired General Wes Clark.
Joe Lieberman introduced the resolution authorizing the War in Iraq. That was a mistake.
Joe Lieberman voted for that resolution without asking the tough questions. That was also a mistake.
And now, 3 and a half years into a failing mission in Iraq, Joe Lieberman can't seem to say we should change the course. And that's a REAL mistake.
Re-elect Joe Lieberman? Well, there's a word for it.
"Mistake."
I'm Ned Lamont and I approve this message.

2006 Candidates | 2006 Elections | Iowa | Selden Spencer | Democratic politics | Fundraising
This year's midterm elections present American voters with a clear choice on the type of leadership we want for our country. Do we want to continue with the Republicans' current "stay the course" status quo? Or do we want new leadership on the critical issues that we face -- in particular the situation in Iraq -- the type of new leadership that only Democrats can provide?
|
For those who choose new leadership, they need look no further than Dr. Selden Spencer, who is the Democratic nominee for Congress in Iowa's 4th district.
I just recorded a radio ad in support of Dr. Spencer's campaign, and we are looking to raise $10,000 in order to play the ad across the 4th Congressional District. Please contribute what you can to air this important message.

I served in the military for 38 years. From my experience, it is clear that our policies are not leading us to victory in Iraq, Afghanistan, or the rest of the Middle East. It will take more than military might alone to secure America
Dr. Selden Spencer of Huxley has been on the ground in Afghanistan. He sees that we need a new direction in the Middle East that includes diplomacy and economic development, in addition to the strong military component of the mission.
Dr. Spencer served in Kabul as a physician with Northwest Medical Teams, and while there it became crystal clear to him that a critical component of our battle in the Middle East needs to be winning the hearts and minds of the people there. This is a lesson the Republicans in Washington refuse to learn, and is one of the primary reasons we need Dr. Selden Spencer in Congress.
Change the course with Jon, Harold, and Ned

2006 Candidates | 2006 Elections | Harold Ford | Jon Tester | Ned Lamont | Democratic politics
We're just two days from the most important fundraising deadline in the 2006 elections, and I wanted to write to you about three candidates who will help change the course in Congress and in America: Jon Tester (MT-Sen), Harold Ford, Jr. (TN-Sen), and Ned Lamont (CT-Sen).
Jon Tester
|
Today, I am in Montana to support one of our strongest candidates to take over a Republican-held Senate seat, Jon Tester. Jon is an organic farmer from Big Sandy, MT, and for the last eight years has also been a State Senator and is currently the President of the Montana State Senate.
Jon is running against one of the worst Senators in Congress, Republican Conrad Burns. Burns received nearly $150,000 from disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his associates, with Abramoff himself being quoted in Vanity Fair as saying, "Every appropriation we wanted from Senator Conrad Burns' committee we got." And what Senator tells a team of fire fighters who had traveled to Montana from Virginia to fight a major forest fire that they were "doing a piss-poor job"?
Montana is a state that President Bush carried by 20 points in 2004, yet Jon Tester is leading in the polls because of his authentic representation of Montana values.

When I'm on the campaign trail for candidates across the country, I hear it over and over again: Americans want an end to the Bush one-party government. The current rubber-stamp Congress doesn't serve the interests of the American public. It only serves the interests of George W. Bush, Karl Rove, and their right-wing friends.
You can change that right now and help Democrats "Take the Hill."
Today, I'm asking you to help me raise $5,000 each for four great candidates before the September 30th fundraising deadline: Joe Sestak (PA-07), Bruce Braley (IA-01), Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01), and Eric Massa (NY-29). Each of these Democratic House candidates faces a Republican opponent with a huge campaign war chest. And I need you to help them close the gap.
Please help Joe, Bruce, Carol, and Eric "Take the Hill" this November by donating through my ActBlue page today!

Former 3 Star Admiral Joe Sestak will discuss his four key pillars of national security beginning at home in the health, education, economic and defense securities of our citizens. Sestak will discuss how these securities are being eroded by the policies of this Congress and Administration. He will discuss how he is running to reverse that erosion, and to help establish a new direction. |
General Clark has said: "Today American families face many difficult challenges at home and abroad. We face continued threats to national security, and we must prepare for a changing global economy that demands that America train our people to compete for the highest paying jobs. Joe Sestak has the leadership and experience to battle the toughest issues both at home and abroad.
"As a former Navy Admiral, Joe knows first hand what it takes to keep this country safe. He has the vision and know-how to foster economic opportunities for Americans so we can better compete in the world economy."
"The elections in 2006 are not local, they are national. These are choices of war and peace and what this country stands for, and our basic liberties and freedoms under the Constitution of the United States of America. Thats what this election in 2006 is all about. We have an opportunity to turn things around now before it's too late. To change politics-as-usual, we have to vote for someone besides the usual politicians."

2006 Candidates | Arkansas | Governors Races | Mike Beebe | Call to Action | Fundraising

Morning Everyone! Just wanted to pass this along...please forward it far and wide across the blogosphere!
Mike Beebe's race in Arkansas is one of the most important for us to win...by "us", I mean, the country, Democrats, and especially General Clark & WesPAC. We need to pick up four Governor's seats in November to get a majority - and this is a MAJOR one! It might not seem like a governors races in states that aren't your own are that important - vs. House races. But they are! Governors set the agenda for their states for years to come - and those agendas and polices have huge impact on neighboring states. Don't think so? Just ask Colorado how much of its fresh water gets shipped to other states - states who couldn't survive without it. Arkansas policies have enormous impact for all the Delta Valley, and beyond.
