Retired four-star Gen. Wesley Clark will visit Amarillo on Thursday as part of a Distinguished Lecture Series sponsored by Amarillo College. Clark will address world events at 7:30 p.m. at the Amarillo Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.

"This will be an excellent opportunity to hear expert commentary on current world events," said Heather Atchley, student activities specialist.AC hosts one speaker each year as part of the lecture series, Atchley said. AC's student government association organizes and promotes the event.

Clark's visit has been planned since July, Atchley said."We try to bring in people from a wide variety of backgrounds in order to expose the community on a lot of different opinions," she said.

Clark is the former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO and was the first American to hold that position. He led a unified force of 19 nations to victory in the Kosovo conflict without a casualty. Clark's military career also took him to Latin America, Africa and Europe. He retired as one of the most highly decorated military officers in U.S. history.
