First Person Account: Bethany, WV

As most of you know, whenever General Clark makes an appearance, as soon as he's done with his remarks, he is immediately swarmed upon like a rock star. Last night was no different, so I decided to grab some finger food with Da Kid while others got their chance to meet-n-greet a retired four-star general.

Finally, as the crowd subsided, me and Da Kid walked up to the smaller crowd surrounding General Clark. Let me disgress a moment here.

After Clark's comments, the president of the university told the crowd that there were four plaques in the foyer of Commencement Hall of previous speakers: two democrats (JKF & LBJ) and two GOP (Nixon & Ford). The college president told us that, within two years of giving speeches in Commencement Hall, every single one of them were in the White House! (The crowd erupted in applause and laughter!) He added that they hope to add a FIFTH plaque! With this in mind, our turn came to say "hello" to The General.

I related the comments of the college president to Clark and told him, "This first thing that popped into my mind when I heard those comments was 'Bethany College: the Dixville Notch of West Virginia!' ". Clark reeled back in a long loud hearty laugh! I asked him when he was coming back to CLE OH and he told me, "It's a strong possibility" so I said we'd round up the usual Clark04 suspects and that we're already organizing in Ohio. Can't wait for General Clark in CLE OH!
