Dr. Selden Spencer has a lifelong connection to the Midwest. He was born in Freeport, Illinois and received his Bachelor's degree at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. Dr. Spencer went on to receive his medical degree in neurology at the University of North Dakota. After meeting his wife Jean, who was raised in Iowa, Dr. Spencer moved to Iowa and has been a resident of Huxley for sixteen years.

Dr. Spencer decided to run for Congress because he was upset with the Republican administration's culture of corruption. "I think the leadership is jeopardizing our future and I believe I can make a difference in Washington." Spencer wants to make healthcare accessible to all Americans, work toward lowering the national debt and make education a priority.

As a Congressman, Dr. Spencer would bring a wealth of knowledge from the healthcare community. He has acted as a faculty member at the University of Iowa and has served the community as a doctor for twenty two years. He has served on the board of the Story County Habitat for Humanity, and acted as a youth leader and deacon at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames.

Dr. Spencer, his wife, Jean, also a doctor, and their three children Matthew, Sarah, and Annie have always been proud to call Iowa home. "I love being on the country side of central Iowa. During harvest season, when it's around sundown and folks are still out working in their fields, it's like the essence of America." Dr. Spencer has a new vision for Washington of honesty, fiscal responsibility and Iowa values.
