It's hard to believe, but this mid-term election season is finally heading down the homestretch towards the finish line. With just over a week to go until November 7th, this is the last chance to contribute to the Democratic challengers who I believe will sweep a new era of change into our nation's capital.
As we enter this last week, we're nearing the point where it will be too late to secure advertising time, send out mailers, and hire field staff for the final get out the vote effort. That's why, if you can contribute again to Democratic candidates, it's critically important to do it today while it will still make a huge difference!
I've personally chosen four final candidates who I'd ask you join me in supporting: Mike Weaver (KY-2), Diane Farrell (CT-4), Paul Hodes (NH-2), and Tessa Hafen (NV-3). All four would represent strong forces for change in the next Congress, and all four -- in very tight races -- need your support to finish strong.
Please support Mike, Diane, Paul, and Tessa -- contribute to their campaigns today!

Mike Weaver
I've written to you before about Mike Weaver. Unfortunately, Mike has been the target of the latest Republican swift-boating smear.
His opponent has made up accusations of serious misconduct, but the nonpartisan FactCheck.org noted that "evidence of misconduct by Weaver in this matter isn't thin, it's nonexistent. The only 'disgraceful conduct' we see here is the ad itself."
We can't let another veteran be smeared by yet another Republican who has no idea what it means to wear the uniform. Help him fight back today!

Diane Farrell
|
Diane Farrell is running in one of the most liberal Congressional districts currently represented by a Republican, and her opponent has let his true conservative nature show in recent weeks. From downplaying the Mark Foley page scandal to claiming that the torture exposed at Abu Ghraib was "something less than torture," incumbent Chris Shays' carefully crafted moderate façade is crumbling.
Diane has been campaigning tirelessly in this race, but she still needs our help to beat an incumbent who claims to be a moderate yet has enabled the Republican majority in Congress that lurches further to the extreme right with every passing day.
Help bring a true Democratic representative to CT-4 -- support Diane's campaign today!

Paul Hodes
|
New Hampshire, Concord community leader and former New Hampshire assistant Attorney General Paul Hodes has defied the pundits and pulled into a tight race against Republican incumbent Charlie Bass.
Bass was one of the most vocal opponents of the successful NATO mission in Kosovo that I commanded, saying at the time, "I do not believe the President has a clear strategy for victory." It seems strange for Charlie to be so critical of a successfully executed mission under President Clinton, but to be marching in lockstep behind President Bush's failed war in Iraq. For Charlie Bass, it seems that party comes before country.
Paul Hodes has closed the gap, but he still needs our help to finish strong. Contribute to his campaign today!

Tessa Hafen
|
Finally, Tessa Hafen is a third-generation Nevadan who was born and raised in Henderson. For the past eight years, she has served Nevadans in Washington, DC -- working for Senator Harry Reid. As one of his senior aides, Hafen developed and guided legislation on issues such as education, health care, and homeland security.
Tessa Hafen is just the kind of leader Nevada deserves to have in Washington, DC. Her commitment to public service provides Tessa with the experience and perspective we need on Capitol Hill in these trying times at home and abroad.
That's why I am proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with Tessa, and I urge you to support her campaign today!

Each day that goes by, it seems the list of races "in play" continues to grow. The highly respected bipartisan elections analyst Stuart Rothenberg even suggested last week that as the Democratic wave begins to build, we may want to start looking beyond the 1994 mid-terms that swept the Republicans into power and instead look to wave elections such as the post-Watergate 1974 Democratic blowout!
But we can't get too far ahead of ourselves. In almost every case the Republican incumbent still has a fundraising advantage. That's why it's so important to make a contribution today, before it's too late!
Please contribute to Mike, Diane, Paul, and Tessa today -- give them a boost as they head into the final week of the campaign!
