Support Paul Hackett for Congress

I am writing to ask you to support a tremendous public servant and fellow veteran Paul Hackett in Tuesday's special election for the 2nd Congressional District of Ohio.

Paul Hackett is exactly the kind of strong leader we need in these challenging times. He is a former Marine and a veteran of the Fallujah campaign in Iraq. He understands what it will take to fight -- and win -- the war on terror and keep America safe.

He also understands that our nation's greatest strength is found in the talent and diversity of our people. That is why Paul believes it is so important to invest in health care and in our schools, and to use our tax dollars responsibly by ending corporate welfare and supporting small businesses.

Above all, Paul offers the kind of fresh, pragmatic leadership that we desperately need in Washington. For all of their bravado, the Bush administration and Republicans in Congress seem fresh out of ideas about how to win the war in Iraq and bring our troops home. As a Civil Affairs officer in Iraq, Paul helped to rebuild Iraq and reach out to the Iraqi people. His experience and judgment are exactly what we need to finish the job we started in Iraq.

Paul Hackett is running in a special election that will take place on August 2nd. Because turnout for special elections is often low, it is absolutely critical to do everything we can to help Paul's supporters get to the polls next Tuesday.

In a close election like this one, every person can make a difference. With just one week until election day, here are two things you can do to help Paul win on Tuesday:

1. If you can get to Cincinnati, please volunteer to help Paul’s campaign by making phone calls or knocking on doors. Help his team get out the vote on August 2nd.

2. Donate to his campaign. Make sure Paul and his campaign have the resources he needs to reach out to each and every single voter.

Today, the Cincinnati Post endorsed Paul, calling him "a gust of fresh air." Clearly, momentum is on our side. We can win this race, but to do it we need your help. Paul Hackett has the experience and good judgment we need in Congress. Please do what you can to help Paul win Ohio's 2nd Congressional District next Tuesday.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

You ran a great race and showed us how to take back Congress in 2006 and the White House House in 2008.

To my embarrassment only learned about OH special election on Sunday, just sent my small donation of $35 to Hackett's campaign. Glad to see Gen. Clark support for Hackett. A Hackett win could be the beginning of a huge momentum swing against Bush and his sycophants, sending a loud message around the country that Americans are seeing through Bush's PR lies on Iraq. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Ohio will get it right this time and vote for the candidate who has served his country and vote Democrat.

Although we are unable to travel to Ohio, the Four Star Democrats in Santa Cruz want to thank Paul Hackett for his service to our country in Iraq and enthusiastically support him. We are contributing to his campaign and have encouraged all our friends to follow our lead.

We need more vets like Hackett in Congress.

GEN Clark:

With the Republican Chickenhawks sending their loser hit-team to Ohio, Paul Hackett NEEDS your support in person. The people of this district need to hear your straight-talk, common-sense approach to politics, and they need to know you think this is the best candidate for them.

PLEASE find a way to make a stop in support of his campaign!

While I can't donate or do GOTV, I will say that, having been born in Cincinnati, I lend my support to Paul Hackett. Not like I really count for anything, being a mere 18-year-old in college, but I'll see if I can find some of my (very) old friends and see how they're doing, and probably ask this favor of them as well...

As a native Ohioan who moved away many years ago, he'd get my vote in a heartbeat. Note what he said during last night's segment on Countdown. The Schmidt referred to is the Repug running against him:

NOVOTNY (voice-over): Hackett, abortion rights advocate, says he's
for limited government and is strong on national defense. Schmidt is anti-abortion, believes the 10 Commandments should be displayed in area schools, and says she and her opponent clase most clearly on one issue.

SCGNUDTl I support our president, as does this district. My opponent does not.

HACKETT: Didn't vote for him, willing to die for him.

[[In fact, only one Democrat has received more than 30% of the vote in over 20 years. With less than one week to go, this race is within 5 points. And not only is it within five points, but Jean Schmidt is tanking. And no, I am not sitting in my hotel room with a .pdf file in-front of me. Here is what I am hearing, so take it fwiw...

General Clark

Would it not be a BIG help if you showed up in Ohio on Sun-Mon to help out the Hackett campaign?

A 4 star army General and a Marine Major - could make some very positive press for the eve of the election. You are one of the very few democrats the republican voters will listen to and have respect for.

We have to win this race!!!

As a Democrat it is easy for me to get behind Paul Hackett. But this campaign has become more than just a Democrat running against a Republican. An effort is being made to smear Hackett's service record.

Only yesterday the Schmidt campaign was denying that any such effort was being made but their feigned ignorance of the smear effort is being belayed by their silence on the smear.

I have heard that many Clark supporters are heading to the area to try to get out the vote. This is wonderful news. For everyone, regardless of party affiliation, this single contest is the most important event on the calendar. If Hackett can make a strong showing and the smear can be crushed it will go a long way toward ending this type of tactic.

To all of you headed to Ohio, God speed and good luck.

For endorsing Paul Hackett. The "swift boating" of veterans for political gain has got to stop. Paul Hackett volunteered to go to Iraq. He said goodbye to his wife and three kids to go. I suspect the people doing the smear campaign didn't do that themselves. If they aren't willing to volunteer to go to Iraq as Hackett did, they should keep their mouths shut. They truly are chickenhawks!

You are absolutely correct about Swift Boating vets. It needs to stop! Its a page from that the "very honorable" K Rove, 'though I don't want to give the guy too much credit, this is his forte. Hackett is a great candidate, felt good to contribute.
