The Purple Heart
Captain Clark was awarded the Purple Heart for the serious wounds he sustained while in Viet Nam as a 24 year-old Captain patrolling the jungles of Viet Nam.
The bravery he showed during that attack also won him the Silver Star.
Lt. Gen. James Hollingsworth, one of our Army's most distinguished war heroes, says:
About the Purple Heart
The first Purple Heart was established by George Washington in 1782 under the name, “Badge of Military Merit.” The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to any member of an Armed Force who, while serving with the United States Armed Services after April 5, 1917, has been wounded (and required treatment by a medical officer) or killed, or who died.
