MOROCCO: Grand Cordon of the Ouissam Alaoui

MOROCCO: Grand Cordon of the Ouissam Alaoui

In May of 1998, in Rabat, Morocco, King Hassan II decorated General Clark with the Grand Cordon of the Ouissam Alaoui.

The honor is generally bestowed upon military officers, at the discretion of the King, for unusually outstanding and meritorious service, having displayed heroism in combat, or distinguished service to the Moroccan state.

General Clark also met with Mr. Abdellatif Filali, the Foreign Minister of Morocco. The two discussed topics of mutual interest and means to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The Order of Ouissam Alaoui is very similar to the Legion of Merit, awarded by the United States military.

The Moroccan honor is awarded in five levels of distinction, each limited in number.

The Grand Cordon is the highest and most rarely bestowed of the five levels.

Other recipients of the Order of Ouissam Alaoui include Generals Dwight D. Eisenhower, George Patton, and George C. Marshall.
