LUXEMBOURG: Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

In February of 2000, during his last official visit to Luxembourg as the Supreme Allied Commander – Europe, General Clark was presented with an award conferring the title of Grand officier du l’ordre du mérite du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg (Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg) by Defense Minister Charles Goerens.

During the visit, Clark also met with Prime Minister John Claude Juncker and Grand Duke Héritier. In announcing the presentation of the award, the government of Luxembourg highlighted General Clark’s involvement in the effort to promote peace and stability in Bosnia and Kosovo.

Le Grand officier de l’ordre du mérite du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg was instituted in 1961 by Grand Duchess Charlotte.

The honor is bestowed in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight plus a Medal.
