CZECH REPUBLIC: Cross of Merit of the Minister of Defense First Class
Since 1997, citizens of the Czech Republic and foreign nationals can be awarded Defense distinctions in recognition of meritorious deeds and activities of a military nature in the areas of security, humanitarian activities, and other projects of international or domestic scope that have been performed in support of democracy and peace. The Cross of Merit is awarded in recognition of heroism, successful leadership during battle, and meritorious service in combat activities.
The highest of these Defense awards is the First Class Cross of Merit of the Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic.
This honor was bestowed upon General Clark in March of 2000 during his visit with Prime Minister Milos Zeman, heads of the Czech armed forces, the speaker of Parliament, and the Czech Defense Minister.
