CROATIA: The Grade of Prince Branimir with Ribbon and Star
In April of 2000, during a last trip to Croatia prior to his retirement from the US Army, General Clark received the Grade of Prince Branimir from President Stipe Mesic. The award is normally bestowed on those whose special merits promote the international position and reputation of the Republic of Croatia.
General Clark said he had "high hopes and expectations" for Croatia, a former Yugoslav republic hoping to become a member of NATO's auxiliary program, Partnership for Peace. Croatia was admitted to this program the following month.
Note: Most of the references to General Clarkâs award from Croatia list it as The Grade of Prince Butmir, which is incorrect.
