Bloodbath

Mary, Carol and Darcy are running in tight races, and they need our help -- click here to donate to their campaigns before the March 31st deadline!

"It's going to be a bloodbath."

That's what National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman John Ensign promised Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu in her re-election race this fall. And we can expect this to be the playbook across the country.

That's why I wanted to make sure you help me support Mary and two other candidates that I am sure will be under nonstop attacks from the national Republicans this fall: Carol Shea-Porter (NH-1) and Darcy Burner (WA-8).

Join me and give Mary, Carol, and Darcy the resources to fight back. Please contribute to their campaigns before the March 31st end of quarter deadline!

Mary Landrieu

Mary is leading the fight to rebuild hurricane-damaged parts of Louisiana after the Bush Administration's mismanagement led to unbelievable delays and mistakes. She's taking George Bush head on, overriding President Bush's veto of a bill providing $7 billion to restore wetlands and rebuild levees after Hurricane Katrina.

Mary Landrieu is also trying to fix our priorities on national security. She has been a strong and persistent voice calling on the Bush Administration to focus on capturing the person actually responsible for 9/11: Osama Bin Laden.

Now, national Republican operatives want to take Mary out, making her race their #1 priority. Mary's voice is one we can't afford to lose this year. Donate to her campaign before the March 31st deadline!

Carol Shea-Porter

Carol Shea-Porter is running for re-election in New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District. As many of you know, Carol is a member of our Clark community, volunteering for my presidential campaign 4 years ago. After the 2004 election, I urged people to get involved, run for office and bring new leadership to the party. Carol did just that, and with our help beat the odds to become New Hampshire's first female member of Congress.

Carol is one of us, running a truly grassroots-driven campaign. She understands the need to engage the Middle East with diplomacy, provide better health care for all Americans, and take care of our veterans. But she's one of the Republicans' top targets this year, and her campaign is facing a tough election in November.

Help Carol Shea-Porter win a second term. Support her campaign before Monday's fundraising deadline!

Darcy Burner

I have written to you before about Darcy Burner, who is running for Congress in Washington's 8th District. She comes from a military family, and her family background will bring a needed perspective on the war in Iraq and veterans issues to Congress.

Two years ago, Darcy lost a tight race to Republican Dave Reichert, but Darcy doesn't give up so easily. We helped her get close last cycle. It's time for us to put her over the top. George Bush and Karl Rove have already come to Washington to help her opponent. We have to respond.

The race is sure to be tight again. Please contribute to Darcy's campaign and put her over the top in 2008!

Americans are looking to Democrats to fix the mess created by the Bush Administration. They are looking for change, and they are looking to us to deliver it. Republicans know that their only chance is to drag us down into the gutter with relentless attacks and distortions.

We can't let them do it.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

Something Special

Bill Foster and Andre Carson's special elections are just days away -- click here to donate to their campaigns today!

4 and 7.

That's the number of days left until two critical special Congressional elections in Illinois' 14th and Indiana's 7th.

IL-14 was the seat of former Republican Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, who along with Tom DeLay, led the corrupt Republican machine in the U.S. House. Democrats have world renowned physicist Bill Foster running for the seat. I think you'll agree replacing Hastert with a scientist is an upgrade.

IN-7 was the seat of Democrat Julia Carson, who passed away last year. Her grandson Andre has tremendous experience in law enforcement and is seeking to continue his family's amazing record of service.

4 and 7. That's also the number of days you have left to make a difference. Contribute to Bill and Andre's campaigns today!

Bill Foster

Taking Dennis Hastert's seat carries significant symbolism, and I can't think of a better candidate to replace him than Bill Foster. Bill Foster has an impressive resume, designing world class research machines and starting a multimillion dollar business that provides hundreds of jobs for people in Illinois. I know that someone with Bill's drive and intelligence is the right man for the job and can turn Illinois' 14th Congressional District blue in the March 8th special election.

But Bill's race to victory won't be easy: his opponent, Jim Oberweis, has a history of deceiving voters. Oberweis was once fined $21,000 by the FEC for violating a federal election law, and in past campaigns he used fake headlines in TV ads. Let's make sure Bill has the resources to take on his opponent -- and fight against whatever the Oberweis campaign throws at him.

Bill Foster's special election on March 8th is just days away. Help take Dennis Hastert's old seat -- click on the link below to contribute to Bill now!

Andre Carson is also facing a tough special election on March 11th in Indiana. He is running for the 7th Congressional District that his grandmother, Julia Carson, held until she passed away last year. Andre has a strong law enforcement background, having served for nine years as the Officer/Investigator for the Indiana State Excise Police. His extensive experience in national security matters includes his work in the Indiana Department of Homeland Security's Intelligence Fusion Center, where he served in an anti-terrorism unit to keep Indiana's residents safe.

Andre Carson

Andre's race against the Republicans in Indiana is going to be close, but I know that with your help, he can win the 7th Congressional seat. Click on the link below to donate to his campaign today!

Winning the special elections in IL-14 and IN-7 will help Democrats start off the 2008 elections with a bang and a sign for things to come in November. It will show the media, the pundits, and the public that this is the Democrats' year.

But special elections are incredibly unpredictable because of the low turnout and can come down to just a handful of votes. Both races are tight, so any amount you can give to Bill and Andre in these final days could be the difference between winning and losing. It could be the difference between a voter going to the polls or staying home because they don't know an election is happening.

Contribute to Bill and Andre. Help carry them to victory today!

Tucker Carlson: We begin with Hillary Clinton, the war in Iraq and the lessons our leaders should've learned from that war and the lessons Mrs. Clinton has or has not learned. Here to discuss all of that - Iraq, Mrs. Clinton and the future of both - is a man who recently endorsed Clinton for President, the author of A Time to Lead: For Duty, Honor and Courage (sic), retired U.S. Army General Wesley Clark. General, thanks for coming on.

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Thank you. Good to be with you, Tucker.

Tucker Carlson: What do you make of David Petraeus? Did he tell the truth when he came before Congress?

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Well, he told, certainly told the truth as he sees it. I mean, he's the commander. He's in there. He's in the fight. It's his mission to win the war, and it's also his mission to explain it and, and, and gain support.

Tucker Carlson: Is he up to it? I mean, you, you know, you were a General. You look at him. Is he ever-

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Sure, well, sure-

Tucker Carlson: On both sides-

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Sure, he's a terrific guy.

Tucker Carlson: -people are investing a lot of hope in this man.

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: He's a terrific guy, but he doesn't have the cards.

General Wesley Clark on WYNC's Leonard Lopate Show

September 17, 2007
transcript by Reg NYC

Leonard Lopate: General Wesley Clark is the kind of decorated Army officer who graduated first in his class from West Point. Later he served as NATO Supreme Allied Commander and led the Operation Allied Force in Kosovo under President Clinton. And during the 2004 Presidential campaign, General Clark entered the race in response to mounting requests from the blogosphere and a call from Charles Rangel. Now, as the 2008 race is gearing up, General Clark has written a memoir with Tom Carhart Called A Time To Lead. It is published by Palgrave MacMillan. And I'm very pleased that it brings Wesley Clark to my show today. Hello.

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Hello, Leonard. Thank you very much.

Leonard Lopate: This book has the feel of a candidate's memoir, but didn't you endorse Senator Hillary Clinton over the weekend.

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Well, the book isn't a candidate's memoir. I want to say that in the first place, because what I wanted to do is write about, a book about America. I think this next election and maybe the one after that's going to be about defining who we are as a people. And the only way I knew to write about it really was to talk about the Americas that I've seen living across America in various different ways and abroad and watching America. And so, I thought I'd just write it, you know, about the segregated South that I grew up in, about families and the history and what American families are like. And, and then about the Army and Vietnam and the Army recovering and soldiers in the volunteer force. And then finally about my experiences with American foreign policy and military policy. And then all of that is- I was lucky. I lived abroad at Oxford at a crucial time and saw America through the eyes of others. I-i-it, I just want to talk about our country really.

Alan Colmes: Normally we go to the phones right at the top of the show, but tonight we are joined at the top...we'll go to the phones a little later on... with... by General Wesley Clark. He has a new book out called A Time to Lead. General Clark, thank you very much for being here tonight.

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: It's great to be with you Alan.

Alan Colmes: We appreciate it very much. You just came out in support of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: I did.

Alan Colmes: Not a big surprise. You're both from Arkansas. You had a good relationship in Arkansas. You had a good relationship, uh for years. I don't think it was a shock to anybody, right?

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: I don't know if it was a shock or not, but I thought it was the right thing to do. She's the, she's not just just the frontrunner, she's the frontrunner for a reason. She's got the most experience, she's bright, she does her homework, she's got great character, and she is strong and tough. And she can lead.

Alan Colmes: Some people would say that "Boy, ah, a ticket with Hillary Rodham Clinton and let's say, somebody who's had military experience... maybe someone who's also spent some time on the campaign trail, someone who could bring that kind of gravitas, wouldn't be such a bad ticket." Right? Do you know who I might be talking about?

GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: I haven't, ah, actually considered that. Because, Alan, this was ... and this is the truth ok, I mean.... I thought a lot about running. But I couldn't get my preconditions met. And, um, I think that the American people should come together and pick the right person to be President and this is my chance to say that, and I took it.
