Not Backing Down

Jim Martin and Paul Carmouche face runoffs next month, and we can't back down until they're over.

November 4 was an historic day. The Democratic wave created competitive races in "red" areas that the pundits never believed would be close. Two of those races are now headed to runoffs, and we can't back down until they're over.

Jim Martin in Georgia and Paul Carmouche in Louisiana have campaigned tirelessly in their races, and now we have an opportunity to put them over the top. Next month, Jim Martin faces a runoff against Saxby Chambliss for the U.S. Senate seat in Georgia, and Paul Carmouche will compete in a runoff against his opponent for a seat in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District. We have come too far and have fought too hard to back down in these tight races.

Jim Martin

Jim Martin

I've written to you before about Jim Martin. He has served our nation honorably as a member of the Armed Forces in Vietnam, in the Georgia House of Representatives, and at the Georgia Department of Human Resources. Throughout his career, he led Georgia on health care issues, helped provide quality health care for thousands of children, and put foster children in loving homes.

Jim's opponent, Saxby Chambliss, is doing everything he can to cling onto his seat. In 2002, Chambliss ran one of the most despicable TV ads I've ever seen in which he compared war hero Senator Max Cleland to Osama bin Laden. And now, in a desperate attempt to win the December runoff, his latest ad uses images from 9/11 to exploit voters' fears about terrorism. To top it off, John McCain flew into Atlanta last week to campaign for Chambliss. We can expect more attack ads and other national Republican figures to descend on Georgia for Chambliss, and Jim needs our help now.

Paul Carmouche

Paul Carmouche

Paul Carmouche is running for an open seat in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District. As the District Attorney for Caddo Parish, Paul has taken thousands of violent criminals off the streets and put them behind bars. He has cracked down on child predators and domestic violence. His opponent, John Fleming, on the other hand, wants to cut taxes for millionaires like himself and raise taxes for middle class families.

Paul has shown an ability to win over Republican voters and current polling has him ahead of his opponent. But we can expect the right-wing to launch full-scale attacks on Paul's record, and he needs our support. Let's help put Paul over the top, and add the 4th Congressional District to the growing list of Democratic seats in Congress.

Runoff races are all about turnout and that depends heavily on the ability to raise money. Please rush a contribution to Jim and Paul today.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

It's Not Over

With 40,000 ballots still to be counted, Charlie Brown's race is too close to call.

Help him fight back -- click here to donate to Charlie Brown's Election Protection Fund today!

Our friend Charlie Brown needs our help. The margin in California's 4th Congressional District is razor thin, and they're still counting votes. After more than 300,000 ballots were cast in CA-04, the race is tied. The current difference stands at less than half of 1% (less than 500 votes).

With 40,000 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots still to be counted, the race is way too close to call. That's why it's critical for us to make sure all the votes are counted in CA-04.

Please contribute to Charlie Brown's Election Protection Fund today!

Charlie's opponent, Tom McClintock, has hired an election attorney and brought in a team of lawyers to "watch" the locations where absentee and provisional ballots are being counted. McClintock's team is doing everything they can to challenge the votes of thousands of people who faithfully cast their ballots.

Charlie needs our help to fight back.

Please contribute to Charlie Brown's Election Protection Fund today!

In 2006, the WesPAC community's support carried Charlie to within 3 points of victory. Charlie, a 26-year military veteran who served from Vietnam to the Gulf War, will be a strong advocate for our veterans and an important voice to end the war in Iraq.

His opponent never served, has accumulated the worst voting record on military and veterans issues in the California legislature, and yet had the gall to attack Charlie's patriotism with blatant lies and innuendo.

There's too much at stake. It's critical we ensure all the votes are counted in CA-04.

Please contribute to Charlie Brown's Election Protection Fund today!

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

Last Minute Plea

Eric Massa, Dan Seals, and David Boswell need your support to fund urgent media buys and last minute get out the vote operations.

Click here to donate to their campaigns today!

I just received an urgent note from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. There are three candidates we need to help right now in these final 24 hours before the polls close.

Eric Massa (NY-29), Dan Seals (IL-10), and David Boswell (KY-02) need your support to fund urgent media buys and the expansion of last minute get out the vote operations. They need to pay for extra boots on the ground that could be the difference between winning and losing tomorrow.

Can you rush a last minute donation to Eric, Dan, and David?

Two weeks ago I told you that Eric Massa was being swiftboated. Well, it's still happening. Last week, another letter to the editor was printed in a local paper attacking his military record.

It's clear his opponent has a small clutch of 8-10 people spreading these lies to local papers, and yet with the exception of one, all of the local newspapers have refused to print the letter I wrote for Eric defending his service to our country.

Eric can't rely on the media to do what's right, so I need you to send him a last minute donation so he can get his ad "Military Service" back on the air to defend himself. Make a contribution to Eric today!

Dan Seals is running against Mark Kirk in Illinois' 10th Congressional District. Dan believes that it's time for change in America. It's time to move forward and solve the real challenges that face our nation -- from the economy, to health care, to the cost of gasoline, to Iraq and our foreign policy.

Two years ago, Dan came up a few points short, and this time, the race is once again neck-and-neck. Barack Obama will win this suburban district, and has cut a radio ad for Dan that if voters in the district hear, will help carry Dan to victory tomorrow.

But Dan needs a final infusion of financial support to make it happen. Please make a contribution and help him air Barack's ad for him in these final hours.

David Boswell is running for the open seat in Kentucky's 2nd Congressional District. David's background as a state legislator and his work as Kentucky's Commissioner of Agriculture make him a strong candidate. He has been a strong advocate of open and fair government, and he is invested in making full use of Kentucky's natural resources to increase our country's energy independence.

This is a tough district that George Bush carried handily, but the most recent polling shows David with a very slim lead. To win, he needs to make sure all the new voters coming out to the polls for the presidential election, vote down the ballot and check David's name.

David is expanding his get out the vote operations, and he needs our help to do it. Please make a contribution to his campaign today!

We're moments from making history. Thank you so much for being a part of it with me.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

94 Filibusters

Barack Obama's agenda will be filibustered if we don't elect enough Democrats to the Senate. That's why I need you to help Jim Martin and Kay Hagan win

Click here to donate to their campaigns today!

A responsible withdrawal from Iraq? Filibuster.

Reform the health care system? Filibuster.

Investment in renewables and a new energy economy? Filibuster.

That's what we can expect to happen to Barack Obama's agenda if we don't elect enough Democrats to the Senate on November 4. Republicans have filibustered a record-breaking 94 times in the last two years! Imagine what they will do when faced with Barack Obama's agenda for change.

That's why I'm asking you to help in two Senate races that few believed we could win just months ago: Jim Martin in Georgia and Kay Hagan in North Carolina. Contribute to Jim and Kay today.

Jim Martin

Jim Martin

Jim Martin served our nation honorably as a member of the Armed Forces in Vietnam, in the Georgia House of Representatives, and at the Georgia Department of Human Resources. He has led his state on health care issues, helped provide quality and affordable health care for thousands of children, and put foster children in loving homes.

His opponent, Saxby Chambliss, ran one of the most despicable TV ads I've ever seen in 2002. The ad compared war hero Senator Max Cleland to Osama bin Laden. And now, Chambliss has launched two new attack ads against Jim, even brazenly using the same background music from the attack ad on Max.

The race is neck-and-neck, and I need you to make sure Jim has the resources to fight back against Chambliss' distortions and lies by making a contribution today.

http://www.actblue.com/page/stopfilibusters

Kay Hagan

Kay Hagan

As a five-term State Senator, Kay helped strengthen North Carolina's economy, increased the salaries of teachers, and broadened early childhood education. I'm also standing with Kay because she will stand up for our nation's military and veterans. It is not just because she comes from a strong military family -- she has a deep respect for the men and women who serve our country and fight for the freedom we often take for granted.

Kay has a real chance to oust Elizabeth Dole. Dole has been a rubberstamp for George Bush and has voted with him 92% of the time. We can't let George Bush's failed policies continue under Dole.

Kay holds a slim lead. So now the right wing attack machine is throwing millions of dollars into this race over the final two weeks hoping negative, false advertisements will make the difference. And I just learned Elizabeth Dole has loaned herself $3 million dollars this week to buy her seat back.

Kay needs our help to fight back. Please help carry Kay to victory by making a contribution today!

We have 13 days to make a difference in these races. Jim and Kay need your help now.

Thank you for helping to change our country.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

And the Swift-Boating Begins...

Eric Massa is being swift-boated, and he needs your help.

Contribute to Eric's campaign today!

Sadly, it has come to this. I've written to you about my good friend Eric Massa many times. Eric is running in New York's 29th congressional district, and he needs our help now.

He's being swift-boated.

Randy Kuhl and his cronies are attacking Eric's service, contending he didn't obtain a high enough rank. That would be a ridiculous argument even if they didn't deliberately leave out the fact that Eric nearly died of cancer while in uniform, cutting his brilliant career short. How do I know? I was there.

We can't let these despicable attacks defeat Eric. Please join me and contribute to Eric's campaign today!

http://www.actblue.com/page/swiftboatingeric

Just yesterday, Don Davidsen, one of Randy Kuhl's biggest fans, wrote a shameful letter to the editor and sent it to several newspapers in New York. He questioned Eric's fitness to serve in Congress because of his military experience. Mr. Davidsen would like you to believe that Eric Massa left the Navy without obtaining a high enough rank.

It's absurd.

Eric Massa was my personal Military Aide when he fell ill, and I am the one who ordered Eric, against his will, to leave his post and seek the medical attention that led to his eventual diagnosis -- a diagnosis that saved his life. Was Eric's military career cut short? You bet it was. Does this make it right for Randy Kuhl and his ilk to shamefully attack Eric for his service to our nation?

No.

We cannot back down to these attacks. Eric needs our help to fight back now. Contribute today!

http://www.actblue.com/page/swiftboatingeric

This kind of treatment of our veterans makes me fighting mad, but it's hardly a surprise, because when it comes to attacking veterans, it's tough to compete with Randy Kuhl. Randy has a zero (that's right, zero) rating from the Disabled American Veterans, and just this year voted against healthcare for our soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and against expanding the GI Bill. This isn't the kind of leadership that we need in Congress.

We need Eric to bring real change to Washington. Unlike his opponent, Eric supports our veterans, and has received the endorsement of several leading vet's organizations including VFW, VoteVets, and IAVA. We came so close two years ago. You can put Eric over the top in these final weeks.

Help Eric Massa fight the Right-Wing attacks against his service to his country.

http://www.actblue.com/page/swiftboatingeric

Randy Kuhl and his supporters seem to think that swift-boating veterans is OK. They're wrong. It's a disgrace, and I am asking for your help to put this type of vile political behavior to an end once and for all.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

Take 3

Betsy Markey, Ashwin Madia, and Jill Derby are all facing negative attacks from the Republicans who are desperately trying to hold onto these seats. Help them fight back.

Click here to donate to their campaigns today!

That's what I'm asking for today. I need you to help me take 3 Republican seats in the U.S. House and give Barack Obama the governing majority he needs to get out of the mess George Bush and Dick Cheney have created.

Betsy Markey (CO-4), Ashwin Madia (MN-3), and Jill Derby (NV-2) are running great campaigns in tough Republican districts. They're making their final decisions on advertising in the final weeks. They're all facing negative attacks from the Republicans who are desperately trying to hold onto these seats. They need our help to fight back.

Please contribute to Betsy, Ashwin, and Jill. Give them a boost in this final month before Election Day.

http://www.actblue.com/page/Take3

Betsy Markey is a successful businesswoman, entrepreneur, mother of three and community volunteer running in Colorado's 4th Congressional District. A former staffer for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar of Colorado, Betsy is the right candidate to defeat right-wing extremist, Marilyn Musgrave.

Betsy Markey

Betsy Markey

Recent polls have shown Betsy ahead of Musgrave, and it's clear why voters want a new Representative. Musgrave, one of the most conservative members of Congress, has focused on divisive social issues such as gay marriage and abortion. In fact in 2006, with a war raging in Iraq, a broken health care system, and a weakening economy, she called banning gay marriage "the most important issue that we face today." She is simply out-of-touch.

This race is one of the closest ones this year, and Musgrave has already launched misleading, negative ads that attack Betsy's character. Betsy needs our help now. Donate to her campaign today!

http://www.actblue.com/page/Take3

I've written to you before about Ashwin Madia. I'm happy to report that with the Clark community's early support he has inched ahead in the race for Minnesota's 3rd Congressional district.

Ashwin Madia

Ashwin Madia

As an Iraq War veteran, Ashwin Madia knows how important it is that we get our troops out of Iraq and safely home. He spent seven months in Iraq, working with U.S. officials, European Union and United Nations representatives, and Iraqi judicial officers to strengthen the Iraqi criminal justice system.

But with Ashwin pulling ahead, the attacks have started coming. His opponent is running nasty attack ads against Ashwin, and according to one major newspaper, "using racial code words against Madia, whose family hails from India."

That's unacceptable.

We can't let the right-wing smear Ashwin's record and good name. Donate to his campaign today!

http://www.actblue.com/page/Take3

Jill Derby

Jill Derby

Last cycle, our community helped Jill Derby come up just short of defeating Dean Heller. This year, it's going to be different. Jill has spent her career as an educator, and served 18 years on the Nevada Board of Regents, the governing board for the Nevada System of Higher Education. As a Regent, Jill earned respect and praise from Nevadans of all political stripes, as well as national attention as a leader in higher education.

Dean Heller has voted 92% of the time with President Bush, opposed educational benefits for our veterans, and has blocked renewable energy development and efficiency standards at every opportunity.

Nevadans are ready for change. Let's help put Jill over the top this time. Donate to Jill's campaign today!

Thank you for doing everything you can to help bring change to Washington.

Sincerely,

Wes Clark

Wesley Clark fires up Democrats

The retired Army general visited Destin and Crestview on Tuesday

September 30, 2008 | Northwest Florida Daily News | Tom McLaughlin and Kyle Wright

DESTIN - Bush-bashing, McCain cracks and Palin-knocking were all the rage Tuesday morning at Harbor Docks restaurant.

Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark was brought in to fire up Democrats in support of presidential candidate Barack Obama. He got the opportunity before about 200 people.

"It's wonderful. It's this way all over the country," Clark said of the crowd's size and enthusiasm.

He said the Bush administration has helped fuel the fire for Obama.

"People know something's wrong. It's not like America to lurch from crisis to crisis. They're counting on Barack Obama to fix it," he said.

Those in attendance were young and old, black, white and Asian, veteran and non-veteran, even Republican. One man, 84-year-old Fred Hoole, told Clark he intended to vote for a Democrat for president for the first time since 1948.

Harbor Docks owner Charles Morgan set the tone for the event with a shot at Okaloosa County Republicans, who were unable to land a national figure for a rally Sunday.

Listing some of the notable Democrats who have spoken at Harbor Docks, Morgan noted, "That may lead you to think we lean to the Democratic side of things."

"Actually, we'd be happy to host Republicans here," Morgan added. "But in a county where Republicans outnumber Democrats by three to one ... they can't get anybody down here to speak. I don't think we'd have any more success."

Clark spoke of the four crises of the Bush administration, beginning with 9/11 and then the invasion of Iraq, Hurricane Katrina and the now-unfolding economic crisis.

In each crisis, poor planning led to unacceptable outcomes, Clark said.
