Governor, thank you very much for that warm welcome and all of you for being out here on this beautiful day. Gert and I are just thrilled to be here with you in Maine. We love this state, we've been here many times, and it's just great to see you out here. I'd like to echo something that your Governor just said. I'm so happy to see the kids out here, because Democrats stand for family values. That's a message that will not only ripple across America, we want it to rocket across America.
Because our values are the values that it takes to have and nurture a family. Values like believing in the importance of having real employment.
Democrats know how to build a strong economy, and create jobs. We believe in family values like education, because if you can't get a good education for your kids, they're not going to be able to provide for their families. We believe in family values like health care, because if you don't have strong health care, you can't take care of a family. So this is a Democratic Party of family values.

BRUNSWICK -- Sunshine, lobster, live music, and Maine Democrats were cause for celebration Sunday at the inaugural Muskie Lobster Festival at beautiful Thomas Point Beach.
"The large crowd at this year's Muskie Lobster Festival shows that Maine people are active, engaged, and feeling positive about where Maine is headed, Governor John Baldacci said.
Governor John Baldacci, Congressman Allen, Congressman Michaud, Senate President Beth Edmonds, Speaker of the House John Richardson, Senate Majority Leader Mike Brennan, House Majority Leader Glen Cummings, Attorney General Steve Rowe, Maine Democratic Chair Pat Colwell and nearly 500 attendees welcomed esteemed guests General Wesley Clark and Democratic National Committee Secretary Alice Travis Germond.

Should I write: it was a perfect day, and be done? Or should I fill out the little corners, the "and then" "and then" and then again, "and then"? Oh dear me, how does when break down a perfect day?
It started off with the requisite: Clarkie lost but determined to complete the mission. When the road opened out onto the 85 acre expanse of "Thomas Point Park" all the rising road tension vanished, and one just knew that meeting the challenge posed by a useless map was well worth it.
General and Mrs. Clark arrived shortly after stewarts and I had settled in for lunch at a picnic table in the shade. The tables were scattered across a closely mown field, and there is something about Gert Clark that makes her unmistakable in any crowd, so it was she I spotted first. And of course, one must assume that the gathered crowd, the continued drifting of picnickers attracted to a center beyond the lobster and ice cream tents, surely held a reason for great interest hidden from view.

General Wesley Clark was getting a taste of Maine politics and lobster at this year's Muskie bake, renamed the Muskie Lobster Festival.
Clark won't say whether he'll make a second run for the White House in 2008, but he was looking very much the candidate, as he shook hands with Democratic party faithful at the fundraiser.
He told party supporters Democrats need to challenge the president on an exit strategy for the war in Iraq. He also said the party needs to show Americans that Democrats celebrate family values with their work to improve health care and education.
Clark has been critical of the Base Realignment and Closure process, too. He said the pentagon needs to make sure all parts of the country have a military presence.
"I think we should try to have national security elements all over the country and not have them concentrated in one part of the country," Clark said.

We had a wonderful, low humidity, sunny , 80 degree day at Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick, Maine today at the Muskie Lobster Fest featuring General Clark.
I'd guess about 500 or so party faithful.
There was live music, lobster, barbecue, Gifford's ice cream, a beer tent (way too close to the Clark info. table), nice salty air breeze, and did I mention lobster?
Wes & Gert even stopped by after his speech to pose for a photo with us at the table.
